The National Transport and Safety Authority chair Lee Kinyanjui has urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules to curb accidents.
Kinyanjui said his agency is committed to ensuring implementation of policies related to road transport and safety.
“NTSA is expected to bring sanity to Kenyan roads that have recently witnessed a rise in the number of accidents caused by carelessness of drivers,” said the NTSA boss.
He warned drivers who keep flouting traffic rules that they will be disciplined.
He spoke on Saturday in Naivasha town during a consultative forum by the members of NTSA.
Kinyanyui said the Traffic (Amendment) Act of 2012 was meant to curb recklessness on the roads and will be reinforced to give no room to errant drivers.
“The reinforcement of the Act will help in restoring sanity on our roads,” he said.
He urged drivers to be careful as the festive season approaches by respecting other road users.
“Drivers have an obligation of ensuring safety is maintained during and after the festive season,” he said.
Kinyanjui, however, said more needs to be done to end accidents on our roads.
