The department of roads and public works has been ordered to start renovation of the Ekerenyo-Nyamusi road following complaints from members of the public.

A section of North Mugirango residents wrote to Governor John Nyagarama asking him to address the issue.

In a statement issued by county secretary Mr Erick Onchana, the county boss directed the department to commence the work despite the ongoing heavy rains in the region.

Onchana said the move to order immediate renovation of the road was precipitated by unwarranted attacks directed towards the county leadership, despite the roads committee having agreed to renovate the road that connects Kisii-Kisumu highway.

“The plans to renovate the road were in place but due to persistent pressure from members of the public, the governor hereby orders the department of road to begin the renovation exercise immediately. We had delayed it due to rains being experienced in the area,” said Onchana during a press briefing on Tuesday.

He said the cost of renovation might be a little higher than earlier estimation due to the rains, and urged members of the public to restrain from piling pressure on the county government on issues that had been identified for rectification.

“We are likely to incur a lot of costs due to the rains and the public sometimes should consider giving the county government time to do some of the projects because we have a plan. But Ekerenyo-Nyamusi road being a special case, the roads department will start the project as soon as possible,” said Onchana.
