Health workers in all public hospitals in Nyamira County have been warned against neglecting their duties.

County governor John Nyagarama who was inspecting the refurbished Nyamira Level Five Hospital on Thursday cautioned the officials against absconding their duties.

According to him, a section of disgruntled residents had written to his office complaining of negligence by some staff in two leading hospitals (Nyamira and Keroka) precipitating his warning to the health workers.

“I think you are paid to serve the public and therefore, you must adhere to the code of conduct. When patients report to any public hospital, they must be served with dignity. Those who think that they can go against the law must be ready to face the axe,” he said.

Nyagarama directed the department of health officials to carry out regular checkups to put health workers on toes.

“And I want to direct that the department of health carries an audit in every public hospital to assess the situation there. We want to see patients served with respect and high esteem,” he added.

He said the county government had invested massively in the health sector and remained optimistic that residents will see tremendous change in the sector.

“The county is focused in improving the health sector. That is why I need workers to support us by playing their part well. We want to see  change,” he added.
