Speaking on Thursday at Nyamira Boys High School during the marking of International Day for People with Disabilities, county chief officer Alice Manoti who represented governor John Nyagarama at the event said the county will support the disabled financially to initiate projects that will empower them economically.

"The government has set aside Sh500 million for the disabled in the county. What we are doing now is identifying the beneficiaries so that they can be given the funds to start projects that can help them," said Manoti.

The county's secretary for people with disabilities Maranga Sangara asked the national government to release funds for the disabled to support them.

He challenged the county government to honor the constitutional provision of 5 per cent of jobs going to the disabled.
