Nyamira County bursary management committee has been called upon to distribute the funds fairly so that each student from a poor background can get a portion of the same.
In an interview with Gesiaga secondary principal Moses Orutwa on Wednesday, he said rationalising the kitties would not only check duplication, but ensure that beneficiaries are adequately funded and fairly improve the education levels in the county.
“In the past we have seen cases whereby some of the bright children from poor background receive less money which cannot sustain the education hence some who don’t deserve the bursary get more money,” he added.
He noted that bright students from poor backgrounds frequently experience difficulties in completing school because the amounts allocated as bursary is little compared to the required fees.
Orutwa called upon the county to also ensure they double-check those who qualify to get the support so that those from poor backgrounds can be considered first.
