There is a message of hope for people leaving with disabilities in Nyamira after the county government vowed to establish a Nyamira County Disability Council (NCDC).
According to governor John Nyagarama, the council will be tasked with empowering persons living with disabilities through employment, investment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the county.
"I ask the department concerned to draft an appropriate Bill as soon as possible and forward it to the County Assembly for public participation, debate and approval,” said Nyagarama.
The governor was speaking on Thursday in Nyamira while addressing a group of people living with disabilities.
He further noted that his government will set aside land for those with disabilities to set up projects to empower them.
They had also asked the county government to construct 'friendly' buildings to enable them access government services easily.
This comes weeks after people living with disabilities accused the county government of Nyamira of discrimination.
