A section of professionals from Nyamira North sub county now claim that they have been sidelined from participating in development activities at the grassroots level by leaders in Nyamira county.

Led by Joshua Nyanumba who is the academic registrar at Kampala University, they called on the county government to incorporate stakeholders from across the divide in charting the development agendas.

“We have been calling for the county government to include us in making key decisions when it comes to development matters but they haven't yet,” he said.

Addressing journalists at Ekerenyo social hall on Tuesday evening, the professionals noted that projects ought not to be initiated locally without the input of diverse interest groups including women, members of the clergy, youth, and special interest groups among others.

They regretted that most politicians were wary of working with professionals at the local level saying this had hampered development activities in the area.

The professionals further urged young people from the area to join the various professional bodies operating in the area after they pointed out that this would help expose them to the various opportunities available in their midst.
