Nyamira County health promotion officer Judith Mosomi has urged area residents to avail their children for polio vaccination exercise that is ongoing.
Speaking during the second day of the exercise in Nyamira on Monday, Mosomi said polio is real and has no cure, though it can be prevented through vaccination.
Mosomi told parents to take their children to nearby health facilities for vaccination.
She also said that any child below 15 years with signs of failure to walk or difficulties to lift things due to weak bones should see the doctor immediately for polio test.
She faulted parents who administer their children with local herbs whenever polio signs start showing, saying that failure to counter polio disease within 14 days of clear symptoms can lead to permanent disability.
“Polio can be treated when the case is intervened within 14 days and no other treatment is needed if not vaccination,” she said.
