More secondary schools in Nyamira County are set to receive text books and other revision materials as an Australian based well-wisher commenced his philanthropic distribution.

Denis Atuya, who lives in Melbourne donated books to Mwongori Secondary and Nyamiranga mixed on Thursday morning, and insisted that the programme is set to reach more schools to boost levels of education in the region.

He said his programme will focus on upcoming schools, and hinted possibilities of constructing libraries for institutions which have been operating with none.

“Education to our children is essential and we have to support it as a community because government alone cannot manage. I want to reach more schools especially the upcoming institutions so that we equip them for improved performances. I am also planning to start a scheme that will see a number of institutions have libraries constructed,” he said.

The Australian based businessman urged teachers and students to make us of the materials to improve academic standards in the region.

“We haven’t really done well as a county in academics and I want to challenge teachers and students to make use of the materials we have donated to put our county among the academic giants. As well-wishers, we are determined to ensure that our schools are supported in all aspects and what we expect is results,” he said.

Atuya said at least 50 schools across the county will receive the learning materials in the first phase which is set to end in March, while the rest will be factored in in the second phase which will kick off in May 2016.
