The county government of Nyamira has unveiled a kitty under the office of the governor that will see bright students from underprivileged families receive support to complete their education.

The kitty is set to supplement the constituency development kitty in four area constituencies and Sh5 million under the Ward Empowerment Fund which is due to be implemented.

Governor John Nyagarama on Thursday said the kitty was occasioned by high cases of needy students pitching tent in the county government to help ahead of their form one admission.

“We resolved as county government to allocate Sh50 million for bursaries to bright needy students across the county. The funds are important following numerous cases we have been receiving especially this year. It’s a vital supplement to CDF and Ward Development Funds,” he said in county headquarters.

The county boss said the kitty will be supervised directly from his office by five selected people from the sub-counties and will be under oversight by the county assembly education committee.

“We have agreed that the kitty to be controlled from my office and will be under oversight from the county assembly education committee. We want the funds to be used prudently and for intended purposes. I thank MCAs for supporting the allocation,” he said.

He graced the occasion to challenge members who will be in charge of the kitty to prioritise needy children and urged them to emulate all CDF committees in area constituencies.

“Needy students must be given priority and we cannot tolerate cases of financial impropriety. It’s good to also benchmark our CDF committees in the four constituencies because they have really excelled,” he said.
