Nyamira women should turn up in large numbers and register as voters to get a chance of electing their own in 2017 polls, two leading women politician have said.
Mrs. Catherine Nyamato said women in the Gusii community had been prejudiced by their male counterparts questioning inability of the region to elect a female MP to parliament.
Nyamato challenged women to ‘wake up’ from slumber land and exercise their political right by electing their own to break the jinx that had lasted from over five decades.
“It’s ridiculous that we have never elected a female representative to parliament since independence. This is why our people are lagging behind in development unlike other regions which have seen merits of having female leaders. I now want to urge women to wake up from slumber land and use their numbers to air their voices,” she said.
Fellow women representative aspirant Mrs. Jerusha Momanyi blamed parliament for its delay to implement the third gender rule saying that it clearly shows how men leaders were not ready to embrace female leadership.
They challenged women to take advantage of voting registration exercise scheduled this February by IEBC and register in numbers to boost their chances of making critical decisions in elections.
