Nyamira youth groups have been cautioned against accepting incentives from incumbent politicians at the expense of fighting for accountability and equal representation.

Speaking at her political base in Kemera-Kitutu Masaba constituency on Thursday, the aspiring Nyamira Women Representative Mrs. Annet Onsando raised concern over the increasing number of youth groups registered in the county.

She said that the formation of many groups indicated that their leaders were after selfish interests and warned them against being used to protect corrupt politicians in the county.

“I am becoming worried over the number of youth groups that are steadily increasing in the county. They have a political stand meaning that their leaders are being given incentives to protect certain politicians who have serious accountability issues,” she said.

She said that having many youth groups that had similar objectives would hamper the young generation from achieving certain goals in the society.

“When you have many youth groups with duplicated functions, it becomes cumbersome for you to realize certain lifetime goals. Some of you will become compromised easily by hungry politicians and it’s upon you to take care of that. We want you to play a vital role of pushing for accountability and development from the ruling class,” she said.

Mrs. Onsando urged youths to advocate for tangible projects that could benefit all of them and warned youth group leaders against being used by politicians for their selfish gains.

“I am crying for the youthful population because I am keenly observing the trend. Its time to put leaders into task and call for the launch of tangible projects that will benefit all rather than spending time soliciting for favors from politicians who will definitely take advantage of your desperation. It’s time to rise up above cheap incentives and fight for your rights,” she added.
