Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi is set to face a fierce contest against immediate former FKF President Sam Nyamweya in the 2017 polls.
Mr Nyamweya declared his intention to run for the seat during a fundraiser at Nyagesenda area on Tuesday, just over two weeks after bowing out of football management.
Speaking during the event, Nyamweya slammed unnamed political forces and accused them of ‘sabotaging’ his constitutional rights.
“I am ready to serve the people of great Kitutu Chache. I have managed football in a number of years and I am confident that I can render my services to our people,” he said.
“There are some dark forces pushing me hard to withdraw but I am not ready to succumb. I cannot allow people to sabotage my constitutional rights,” added the former head of football management in Kenya.
He defended his legacy in football management saying the national soccer team was able to perform fairly well in international competitions and also his introduction of solid football leagues in the country.
“We have structured leagues where teams from across the country participate. The national team has been doing fairly well even with minimal resources we were getting. My strong management background will revive this region from poor infrastructure, social-economic activities and agriculture when I am elected,” he said.
Nyamweya called for politicians to engage in sober campaigns ahead of 2017 polls, insisting that the nation is bigger than individual interests of people.
