Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party officials in Nyando constituency have kicked off a campaign to strengthen the party and mobilise votes for Mr Raila Odinga in the run up to 2017 general elections.
The party chairman in the constituency Mr Fred Outa said party officials must be active in popularising the party in the grassroots.
Outa who is also the area MP told the officials who were recently elected to be in the forefront to market the candidature of Raila and ensure that the youth, women and men are registered as voters.
“Party officials took those positions because they were ready to sell the party and as the chairman, I have started the process to make them perform,” he said.
Addressing all the party delegates on Sunday at Ahero Multipurpose Hall in Nyando constituency, the MP also announced plans to fundraise for the party to help finance party activities in the constituency.
Outa said the funds drive will be conducted in February next year as a way of economically empowering the party officials in the constituency to be able to carry out activities of ODM party.
He urged those aspiring to contest on ODM party tickets in 2017 for any position within the constituency to support such fund drives.
“This is the best platform to know who wants to contest through this party based on its ideologies but not only to get to power. Any aspirant who wishes to contest on an ODM ticket must support the party at this level,” he said.
Outa noted that in most occasions people have been contesting on the party ticket without giving any support to ODM and pledged to give Sh200,000 to the party and told MCAs to contribute Sh50,000.
Nyando delegates warned MCAs from the constituency against failing to popularise the party and only singled out Nominated MCA Jane Omollo who has remained steadfast with the party.
