Nyanza Regional Coordinator Francis Mutie has been transferred to headquarters in Nairobi.

Mutie served as Nyanza Provincial Commissioner from July 2009 before being appointed the region’s coordinator by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.

He has been replaced by Nyandarua County Commissioner Wilson Njega.

Sources familiar with the transfer say Mutie was transferred due to many “undisclosed reasons”.

When contacted, his phone went unanswered.

Mutie has been at loggerheads with Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma over former Provincial headquarters building which he wanted county government officials to vacate or pay rent.

He recently made remarks that did not go well with leaders from Rift Valley, with Nandi Senator Stephen Sang demanding an apology.

Sang said such utterances were uncalled for, noting that the fight that led to the killing of three people with 15 others critically injured was over cattle rustling.

Eight houses were also burnt in Kibigori junction.

He said it was unfortunate that such remarks came from a provincial administrator who was a key security person.

During the Kibigori clashes on the Nandi-Kisumu border, Mutie faulted security officers in Rift Valley saying they were not cooperating in recovering and returning stolen animals from Nyanza.

He said the officers were provoking Nyanza residents. He also accused chiefs from Rift Valley region of colluding and allowing mobilisation of more than 500 attackers.

Mutie alleged that politicians were inciting and feeding the attackers.

He threatened that if the Rift Valley officer did not want to take action his officers will cross over the border.

Mutie also asked the National Security Administrative Committee to come in and help in dealing with Rift Valley security complacency.
