Member of Parliament Nyaribari Chache Richard Tong’i has called upon farmers in the area to improve on the levels of tea production so that they can earn more income during bonus times.
Addressing the area residents at Amasago in Keumbu, he said that the tea prices on the international market was improving and it was high time farmers rehabilitated their farms to boost their incomes.
Tea farming in the area for many years was the area’s economic backbone and it has in the recent past shown much improvement with many farmers who had abandoned the crop to venture into dairy farming going back to their farms.
Tong’i said that although land sizes had decreased due to rising populations, farmers should set aside small portions of land for the new tea varieties being introduced by the research Institutions.
“We are focused in ensuring that farmers get the best prices in the market and there is need for all of you to ensure that you work of your farms for maximum production,” he said.
