The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has taken its party membership registration to trading centers across Nyamira County, targeting youthful generation in a massive exercise that is expected to last for twenty days.
The exercise started outside the party’s offices in Nyamira Town on Monday and is expected to spread to trading centers in the region before culminating at the eve of planned ODM grassroots elections scheduled November 23.
Speaking to this writer during the inauguration of the highly publicised exercise, party’s public relations officer, Stella Nyaundi said the move aims at registering an even number of delegates from all the twenty wards in Nyamira to avert incidents of discontent by aspirants in the grassroots elections.
“We are keen to ensure all regions get an even number of delegates and members who will be eligible to vote. We are also keen to avoid any discontent from members who will be contesting as a step towards promoting openness and equity within the party,” she said.
Ondimu warned aspiring party officials who may be tempted to compromise volunteers who are doing the registration in a bid to shift the ground towards their favor.
“Those aspirants who think they can dictate the number of people to be registered should forget about that. We know exactly what we are doing and volunteers are aware. All we need is to see the youth who are enthusiastic with our party turning up in large numbers to register,” she added.
Among the centres that will be targeted include Kebirigo, Keroka, Manga, Chepilat, Nyansiongo, Nyaramba, and Nyamusi among others.
