Private institutions operating in Gesima Zone, Nyamira County have been given a grace period of one month to register, failure to which they will be closed indefinitely and its owners charged in court.

Area Education Officer Mr Robert Obiria who was inspecting institutions across the zone on Wednesday said the move will enable the ministry deal with cases of schools defrauding parents by failing to register them in national exams.

Mr Obiria said the move was not by any chance targeting individual people rather, to ensure various compliances were met as set by the ministry of education.

“We all want our children to be admitted in schools that are recognized by the government so that they are not inconvenienced in any manner. We want to avoid instances where students reach a level of registering for national exams only to find that their institutions are not recognized by the government causing confusion,” he said.

Obiria also warned the private institutions against operating with teachers who were unqualified leading to poor performances in the region.

“Registration entails so many things which think many know. They must meet all requirements for the sake of adhering to our regulations or face closure. Also, they must employ teachers who are qualified and not just form four leavers for the sake of making profits through unjustifiable means. So they must register in a months’ time,” he added.
