Ogra Foundation Director Dr Hezron Makobewa on Saturday pledged to offer support to traders whose property got burnt in Kibuye fire on Friday.
Makobewa said he will meet the traders to quantify the loss and see what support he will extend to them.
He said the traders were paying loans while some were paying school fees to their children in school.
He said that the traders need quick support to cushion them from the losses.
“Our traders must be assisted so that they can go back to business and support their families. I am working closely with their representatives to see what I can offer,” he said.
Speaking on Saturday at Kibuye market, the scene of the fire incident, Makobewa further asked the city manager Doris Ombara to see on how best the traders can be compensated for the loss they incurred.
Makobewa called upon the county government to put several water points within Kibuye to assist in case of fire.
He said that fire fighters could not be able to put out the fire due to lack of water.
Makobewa said that Kibuye is a high risk area and there is need to place water points in strategic points to respond to such emergencies.
“This is not the first fire, probably it is the fifth and out county government has failed to think and place water hydrant in strategic areas to help in containing these firs,” he said.
