The Mombasa County gubernatorial election is expected to be a hotly contested race following the entry of Senator Hassan Omar.
With both Hassan Joho and Hassan Omar commanding a massive following in the region, the seat is expected to remain open to either of the contestants.
Mombasa residents have however said that Senator Omar will have to prove to them he has what it takes in a bid to convince them to reject Joho in his favour.
Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, a section of Mombasa residents said Omar may lose the seat as he is not very close with the people on the ground.
Some of the residents said that they only see him on TV and not on the ground.
“This man is not close to us. How then can we entrust him with leadership?” asked Fatuma Abdi, a resident.
“I have never seen him in person. How can I vote for someone I do not know?” asked Aboud Omar.
Omar however said he still remains uncertain of who will win the the seat.
Ken Odero, a resident, said the two politicians enjoy massive support from residents and he is expecting a tight race.
