Gatundu North sub-county Teachers Service Commission Employment and Operations director Andrew Mureithi has cautioned trained unemployed teachers against the fake recruitment letters circulating in the region.

Speaking in his office in Kamwangi on Thursday, Mureithi warned the teachers not to fall prey to con men who may extort money from them as they promise them jobs in the commission.

“The recruitment exercise has been completed and successfully recruited teachers deployed to various respective schools at the start of November. In the last one month, eight cases of fake recruitment letters have been reported to the Criminal Investigations Department in Gatundu,” he revealed, urging the unemployed to be cautious.

“I am sounding caution to all unemployed but trained teachers in this region not to be lured into employment tricks. TSC announces its employment of successful candidates and further sends sms to them. Don’t be cheated that there is an ongoing employment exercise here,” he said.

The TSC operations director called upon the area MP Francis Kigo Njenga push a motion in Parliament seeking allocation of more money to the commission to offset the national teacher shortage of about 83,000.

“A lot of schools still face shortage of teachers. This problem has burdened parents because they are forced to dig deeper into their pockets to pay teachers employed by various Boards of Management,” he said.

Mureithi advised the counties to expand schools that will enable the students to use the same facilities instead of building new ones that will cause financial strain to the parents.
