Kisii Governor James Ongwae has challenged women in the region to apply for county tenders.

According to Ongwae, it is only men who apply for the contracts and urged women to do the same so that they can also contribute to the county’s development.

Speaking on Sunday during a fundraiser organised by Maendeleo ya Wanawake at Kisii stadium, Ongwae said 30 per cent of all contracts in the county belong to women, the disabled and youth and they should utilise the opportunity.

He urged women to apply for any contract advertised by the county government.

“I always see only men applying for county contracts, let women make applications once an advertisement is made because we need to work together with our women to bring about development,” the Governor said.

He added; “The county government is only two and half years since and although we have challenges such as cash, jobs and other things, we have to help our women since we have put plans aside for them.”

Ongwae was supported by Nandi woman representative Zipporah Keringi who stressed that women should fight to work for the county government once given the opportunity.
