Kisii Governor James Ongwae has met university officials over a plan to upgrade a major market in the county.
After the meeting on Friday, Ongwae said deliberations to upgrade Daraja Mbili market in Kisii with senior officials from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) led by Vice Chancellor Prof Mabel Imbuga and the university's council chair, Prof Paul Kanyari, had been good.
“In September last year, the (Kisii) county government got into a collaborative agreement with JKUAT in the areas of revenue mobilisation, capacity building for our agricultural extension officers, waste management, development of a science park and modeling of Kisii town among others,” Ongwae said in a statement.
“Following the discussions today, a team comprising officers from the county and JKUAT will embark on implementation of the agreement,” the governor revealed, adding that the county intended to tap into the expertise and capacity of the university to develop Kisii County.
