Politicians from Kisii County have been urged to desist from engaging in politics of division along clans’ lines and instead concentrate on preaching unity and integration among all clans.

Speaking on Monday at Bomachoge-Borabu, area Kisii Governor Mr James Ongwae slammed politicians who have allegedly been inciting area residents to vote along clan lines in 2017 polls.

Ongwae said politics of clan were retrogressive and belonged to the past and instead urged residents to slam politician who are were working day and night to rally certain clans ahead of polls.

“The world has transformed from politics of ethnicity and clans and this is the time we should work with all leaders regardless of where one comes from. We are all aware of politicians who are working day and night to unite certain clans for political gains and that is your duty to shame them during elections,” he said.

He urged leaders to embrace diversity amongst residents and unite against any efforts to disintegrate people along their clans.

“We have seen what clan politics can do to a nation or a community and that should not happen in Kisii. I want to challenge leaders to engage in constructive politics rather than hiding in clans to seek political favours,” he added.

Ongwae also challenged leaders to concentrate on issues that were affecting area people rather than engaging in misleading electorates.

“I always speak with tangible information therefore, let our leaders deal with issues of progress that residents need rather than hiding in clans to scheme for leadership positions,” he said.
