Kisii Governor James Ongwae’s wife Elizabeth has been lauded by a section of county residents for her campaigns in the health and education sectors.

Mrs Ongwae has been spearheading campaigns to boost maternal health and education among children from the county in all the nine constituencies.

The Governor’s wife has donated library books to a number of primary schools in an effort to improve education standards.

Speaking on Tuesday to this writer, residents from Marani lauded Mrs Ongwae and urged area leaders to support her work to reach spread to other regions in the county.

“She is a tough woman and has endured political temperatures from a section of politicians to promote her campaigns in improving education standards and maternal health among our mothers. She is an example worth to be emulated,” said Johnson Omboto on behalf of the residents.

They said many children have been able to access education through her concerted efforts to see students from poor families being supported.

“She has passion for children and through her; we have seen many students who had dropped out of school being given a second chance to advance their academics. We should support her efforts irrespective of our local politics,” he added.

They said through her, women were able to be educated on living healthy and setting up businesses to empower themselves without depending entirely on their husbands.

“Our women are taught on how to lead a healthy life and that has significantly reduced incidents of maternal deaths. She is also key in empowering women to venture into business and it’s high time we supported her to achieve the course in our county,” said Jane Kemunto.
