Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has urged Luhya leaders to unite and front one presidential candidate in the coming elections.

Speaking on Thursday at Starbuck Hotel in Eldoret during a consultative meeting with his staff, Oparanya said it is high time for Luhya leaders to unite and speak with one voice when it comes to politics.

“As Luhya leaders, we are tired of being used as a stepping stone to put other people in power. We need to stop that and instead support one of our own," he said.

The Governor said Luhyas have always been portrayed as divided and cannot speak in one voice thus being used by other politicians to split their votes.

"We want to break the notion that Luhyas are always divided and cannot speak in one voice by ensuring that we are united for us to have a bigger bargaining power," Oparanya added.

He urged his fellow leaders to come together and support one of their own to be the next president.

"If Luhyas are really united and with our over one million votes, we can lead this country with some support from our friends from other regions," the county boss added.
