Operations at Kibos Sugar Factory have been partially halted after bargasse section was razed down on Monday morning.

Kibos Sugar MD Raju Singh said they have temporarily halted the operations after the fire incident.

Raju said bargasse section is used to generate power for running the boilers and turbine machines.

He said they will resume our operations soon because we also have connection from Kenya power that will enable us run the factory.

Singh said there is no causality reported during the fire incident that started at about 6am. He added that the cause of fire has not been established.

Raju said the bargasse section is the major source of power used in running the boilers during cane crushing.

Nyanza police coordinator Willy Lugusa and Kisumu county police commander Nelson Njiri visited the factory.

Lugusa said investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the fire but they are suspecting it as an electric fault.

He said the damage is not massive since only saw dust section used for generating power was affected.

“We will be able to tell the value of damage in collaboration with the factory management once the fire is put out,” Lugusa said.
