Caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children in Kiambu Sub County have started receiving money through the cash transfer programme through their nearest Post offices.
The Kiambu sub county children officer, Jennifer Wangari confirmed that the exercise kicked off this week and shall take a period of two weeks where a total of 970 beneficiaries were targeted under the 2015/16 financial year.
She said that Kiambu Sub County comprises of two constituencies (Kiambu and Kiambaa) that were targeting 779 beneficiaries each though none of the two reached the ceiling.
Wangari clarified that the beneficiaries were collecting money for the months of August and September and the next disbursement will cover three months at once in December.
Maria Njeri, 32, a single mother from Kanunga location say she is happy with the programme and she is assured that if the programe will continue uninterrupted she will be able to meet the very basic needs of her 5 kids.
Her request is that the allocation of money and beneficiaries per month be increased and they also increase the so that caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children will be slightly offloaded the burden of taking care of such children.
