Kisumu West sub-county children's officer James Nyagah has said 1,600 households have benefited this year from the Orphans and Vulnerable Children programme.
The programme which gives orphan guardians' households Sh4,000 every two months, has validated 500 more households and is targeting another 864 by the end of this financial year.
Speaking in his office Thursday, Nyagah said this is in line with the government's agenda of caring for orphans and vulnerable minors.
“This region has a large number of orphans and we're committed to their welfare with the aid of the national government, " said Nyagah.
The OVC programme has seen Sh1.3 million released this year as school fees subsidy for the orphans and vulnerable minors in the region under the secondary schools presidential bursaries scheme, as explained by the sub-county children's officer.
