More than 100 orphans at Saidia Orphanage in Gilgil Nakuru county have received donations of food staffs and other materials by the Kenya National Secretaries Association (KENASA) on Monday in a bid to reach out to the vulnerable persons in the society. The event which brought joy to the orphans saw them provided with foods, personal effects and laundry as well as guiding and counselling sessions.

Speaking in the occasion after issuing the donations, the Rift Valley region KENASA chairperson Jane Njeri said that that event is one of the annual events in the region aimed at building the nation.

"We have membership from the government and parastatals from this region who help us in this project. It is a good day that has seen us play with the children and we are happy to see them smile despite all they have been facing," Njeri said.

Njeri explained that their guiding and counselling sessions have been geared towards helping to bring up the teenagers to live a responsible and humble lifestyle in the community.

"Our counselling sessions for teenage boys and girls target to nurture and guide them on different areas in life including abstaining from drugs and substance abuse, sexuality, cohesion and integration as well as bible studies to bolster their spiritual life," Njeri added.

According to Njeri, the organisation which has a membership base of 400 secretaries in Rift Valley region still lacks enough financial support to further stretch their services called upon well-wishers to support the initiative.

Saidia director Sarah Waweru also applauded the noble gesture calling upon other organisations to follow the footsteps of KENASA.

"Such programs have been invaluable in inculcating a sense of self-worth and identity among the children who would otherwise grow to become social misfits causing them to suffer eternal social rejection. This is why I am challenging those who are gifted to also step up and help such children in realising their dreams," Waweru said.
