The rural electrification project has continued in Mataara where 57 homesteads were connected to power.

Speaking from Mataara on Saturday, the area program manager Titus Muthui noted that only 198 households in Mataara sub location have not received the electricity.

Muthui noted that most of the households either had wrongly indicated their details during the tie of filling the application form or had no supportive documents of their land.

"We have so far been able to electrify 57 households from different villages in Mataara sub location. This includes Gichagi, Ndunduini, Mutugu, Raini, Kangari and Kaguama. We are however far from extending the service to all which we believe to have done before May 2016," he said.

"Only 198 families are currently living without electricity in Mataara. Most of the house heads had no title deeds of their land or wrongly filled the electricity application forms. We are to renew the applications in January."

He urged the area residents to come out and verify the details they had filled to mend mistakes they made. He also advised them to appear with original title deeds during the review process for land confirmation.

Muthui noted that many residents in the area embraced the program with a lot of joy and lauded their cooperation that made the program that successful.

He commended the government efforts in reducing poverty levels in the area by providing business conducive environments.
