Residents of Ambosket ward in Kuresoi South have decried the killings that have rocked the area in the recent past and are now calling on security agents in the area to assure them of their security.

Speaking at a crime scene on Tuesday morning where a body of a middle aged man; a casual laborer at Ambosket Secondary School was found by the roadside near Network Shopping center, they accused police officers in the area of sleeping on their job while they continue to suffer.

Reuben Lagat, the deceased was alleged to be on a drinking spree at the nearby Olenguruone Shopping center on Monday night before being attacked on his way home.

“Although yesterday he appeared drunk, he is our usual customer here whenever he is not on duty and is always sure of reaching his place safely,” noted Mercy Chelegat, an attendant at the bar where Lagat was drinking.

A majority of the residents now want officers from the Olenguruone center to liaise with their counterparts at the Ambosket AP post in increasing night patrols so as to tame the attackers.

“Officers from Ambosket have no vehicle and only patrol partially until 10 or 11PM before going back to the camp, afterwards, it’s every man for himself,” noted Musa Rotich who owns a shop in the area.

Confirming the incident, area AP boss Victor Angatia called on the residents to embrace community policing to help them identify and arrest crime perpetrators.

“If you have any important leads that can help us deal with these criminals, let us know because keeping quite with such crucial information affects more people in the long run,” he said, further expressing their commitment in ensuring a crime free Ambosket.

The body was transferred to the Kuresoi District Hospital with police launching investigations to ascertain the cause of the death.
