Parents in Bosamaro ward have been commended for protecting girls against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages during the festive season.

Addressing residents at Gesiaga secondary on Tuesday, Bosamaro Ward representative Mr Boniface Ombori said he is happy that there were no FGM cases reported in the area during the 2015 festive season.

“This is a clear indication that the vice and outlawed practice of endangering the lives of the young girls to go through the cut is fading away,” he said.

He said that his office is currently working closely with the County Children’s Office in Nyamira and the security officers to ensure that girls are not subjected to FGM .

He urged parents to continue protecting girls from early marriages and prioritize education for all to spur developments in the area.

“We know that if you want to educate the community you educate the girl child, therefore, there is need for us all to ensure that we support education for the girl child and protect them," he added

He called upon the area residents to report any case of FGM to the relevant bodies to allow appropriate action be taken.
