A section of parents in Kibera have thanked the Teachers Service Commission for releasing the teachers' September salaries.
The pay which was released on Tuesday had been withheld because of the teachers' strike which paralysed learning in public schools for more than four weeks.
According to the parents, the tutors suffered emotionally and economically.
"I know there are teachers who are also parents. I was just imagining how they could have coped with the news that they were not going to receive their September salaries. They also had children to take to educate and also needed to feed themselves. It was a tough period for them. I thank the government for remembering them," said Andrew Musakali.
Edward Omusani too said the teachers' who had committed suicide due to salary delays should be compensated.
Speaking at DC on Thursday, Omusani said the teachers had suffered a lot but thanked the state for the gesture.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the TSC to pay teachers their dues afetr hammering a deal with the two parties. I really thank him for being a good friend to the teachers. I urge the government to be paying teachers good salary to avert more strike’’, added Winnie Otimu.
