Parents from Athi River who will not take their children to school when schools re-open in January will be arrested.
This is according to the region's deputy county commissioner Kodeck Makori, who said all parents need to ensure their children enjoy their constitutional right to education.
"Parents from Athi River whose children will remain at home as schools re-open in January will be apprehended and charged," said Makori.
Makori who addressed the press at his office Wednesday said it was the responsibility of the entire community to ensure children go to school.
He called on members of the public to work closely with members of Nyumba Kumi initiative from their clusters to report those parents who violate the order.
"We don't need many police officers but more members of the public feeding us with information, we will arrest the parents within 24 hours once we receive the information," he said.
Makori said children who fail to attain basic education are prone to become law violators by engaging in criminal activities thereby being a nuisance to the community.
