As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education officially comes to an end on Friday, parents have been urged to take caution on what their youth who will now be idle engage in saying a majority of them risk being carried away by the joy of completing school.
In a press briefing in Nakuru town on Thursday, church elders affiliated to different churches called on parents to engage their children in constructive activities saying today’s youth had proved dangerous if not monitored.
Led by the Nakuru Church Elders Council chairperson Bishop Joseph Opicho, they called on the county government to come up with short courses that will help the young academicians acquire life skills.
"What we see, hear and read in different media channels is an explanation of how some parents have absconded duties subjecting their children unimaginable things," he said.
He cautioned parents who will not keep a keen eye on their children who have completed their exams saying it was better to take all the precautionary measures than sit and wait for the consequences.
"Premature sex, drug and substance abuse are some of the bitter realities we have to deal with in our present society, our children have aped western lifestyles to the disadvantage of their parents. Let’s take the situation as it is rather than pretending that all was well," he added.
KCSE exams officially end on Friday as the KCPE tests begin on Monday and until Thursday.
