National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Uasin Gishu County chairman Titus Yego has urged people with disability to vie for elective posts in the 2017 general elections for th better representation.

Speaking during an interview in his office on Monday, Yego said people with disability have been highly neglected and their rights infringed on because they lack adequate representation.

“As people with disability, we have sensitisation programme that aims at encouraging people with disability to vie for higher elective posts like Governor, MP or senatorship for us to have representation in all elective posts which will guarantee us that our problems will be solved since we have our own at the helm,” he said.

He said in the recent past, people with disability have especially suffered due to lack of enough representation in both the county and national government thus passing laws that are not friendly to people with disability.

“We want our voice to be heard, and to also compete fully with our counterparts since we have what it takes to transform this country to be a place to be admired by others only if we are given a chance to showcase what we have,” he added.

He urged people with disability to come out in large numbers in the 2017 general elections and fight for elective posts just like other politicians reminding them that they are equally capable.

“Gone are the days when we are just nominated. Being disabled does not mean we cannot compete, disability is not inability," said the NCPWD official.
