Police in Kiambu have intensified search for three armed gunmen who allegedly shot dead a police officer on Monday night at Kiamumbi Trading Centre.
According to Kiambu County Police commandant James Mugera, the search for the three gunmen who escaped after shooting the police officer is on top gear.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at Kiambu Town, the county commandant said that police are combing through the area adding that the gunmen will soon be arrested.
Mugera said that the police officer attached to Parliament was shot dead by the gunmen on Monday night.
He added that the officer whose car had stuck in the mud at Kiamumbi was accosted by the gunmen who pretended like they wanted to help before shooting him.
“We are going on with the search of the three gunmen and soon we will apprehend them,” he said.
The county commandant said that the gunmen did not still anything from the deceased adding that the motive of the killing is also being investigated.
The commandant asked anyone with information on the whereabouts of the criminals to report to the police.
“We need information to help us arrest the criminals,” said Mugera, adding that police will be deployed across the county to fight crime.
A section of Kiamumbi residents decried cases of armed gunmen allegedly roaming the area.
The residents appealed to the county government of Kiambu to boost security and fight crime.
“Our security should be the first priority for the national and the county government because we feel insecure,” said Abraham Wainaina, a metal dealer at Kiamumbi.
On Tuesday police gunned down a notorious gunman in Ndumberi by with Kiambu security officials warning criminals that their days are numbered.
County Commissioner Alex Nkoyo while speaking to journalists at Kiambu after attending a security meeting on Tuesday said that criminals will be hunted down.
He said that police have taken the necessary measures to contain crime and ensure law and order.
