The National Police Service commissioner Mary Owuor has called on police officers not to fear the vetting exercise.
Owuor said the exercise does not aim to punish officers but to ensure there is sanity in the police service.
"We are urging police officers to embrace the exercise in order to improve the service," she said told senior police officers drawn from different stations in Kisumu County at the county headquarters on Monday morning.
She also expressed concern over officers who opt out of the service for fear of the exercise.
"Today we are carrying out this sensitisation programme so that officers can be enlightened about the process. We do not want to make you feel like we have ambushed you with the exercise," she added.
She also asked the officers to be truthful in declaring their wealth and warned that those who will not do so will be considered to have failed the vetting.
The sensitisation meeting continues tomorrow at the county headquarters where the commissioner will meet police officers from Siaya County.
