More than 296 house units are being constructed by a private investor in Mavoko sub county in a bid to provide the locals with descent and affordable homes.
Prilscot Development Company Limited is constructing the houses at Mlolongo Town, a few metres from the the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Highway for easy accessibility by the to be tenants.
Addressing the press in Mlolongo Town on Monday, the company's director Luka Kigen, said the Ellan Park II residential houses project targets low and medium income earners from both Machakos and Nairobi.
Luka Kigen who is a real estate developer said the houses that include 120 two bed roomed apartments, 100 three bed roomed apartments without DSQ and 76 three bed roomed apartments with DSQ will sit on a 5 acre parcel of land.
"The Ellan Park II residential houses project in Mlolongo is intended for public consumption, 50 houses are already complete and fully occupied in phase one of the project," said Kigen.
Kigen said the three bed roomed houses whose construction started in the year 2007 under Ellan Park one project at the same site ended early this year and sold out in May.
He said the project allows locals to own houses easily and affordable to relieve them from burden of paying rent while away from their rural homes.
"Our efforts as private developers is to complement the state through its Planning and Housing Ministry to provide its citizens with affordable and decent housing," he said.
He said the region has high demand for housing, arguing that the country is in short supply of 600,000 houses, a demand which the government alone cannot meet, hence the need for the private developers to step in.
He commended the national government for promoting private houses developers by creating enabling environments for their smooth operations urging those in real estate industry to work with the state to ensure majority owned their own homes.
Kigen said the project which had just started would be completed within the next 95 weeks from now and houses will sell at between Sh8-10 million, depending on the inflation rates and changes in market prices.
