A section of private sponsored university students want Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire to increase CDF allocation, arguing that a number of them are unable to meet fee requirements in their respective institutions.

This comes after the MP, through the constituency’s Facebook account announced impeding disbursement of bursaries saying that all ‘esteem’ cases were put into consideration.

But the group, led by Zachary Abuga at Gesima on Tuesday challenged the MP to consider increasing allocation to self-sponsored students.

“As self sponsored students, we want to challenge the CDF committee and constituency leadership to consider increasing the amount of money allocated to us. Some of us are unable to meet our fee requirements because we come from extremely poor backgrounds,” he said.

According to them, the constituency leadership has continuously discriminated them by allocating similar amount with those sponsored by government.

“It’s not by choice that one goes for SSP programmes. We have been discriminated in the past and this must stop. It’s unfair to give us all a flat rate of Sh10,000 yet their education is fully subsidised by the government. This is the disparity we want the MP to combat,” he added.

They threatened to hold demonstrations against the CDF leadership if they fail to increase the allocation to a minimum of Sh20,000.

“We demand that the CDF committee increases the allocation to a minimum of Sh20,000 for SSP students. Otherwise we will stage a demonstration if the MP doesn’t intervene to ensure our rights are protected,” he said.
