The deputy chairperson of the National Land Commission (NLC) Abigail Mbagaya has urged schools' boards of management to ensure that schools have title deeds.
Speaking on Wednesday during a forum in Eldoret on securing title deeds for schools, Mbagaya said that cases of school land being encroached on are due to lack of title deeds.
"I urge schools to make an effort to apply for this very important document and we will assist them where possible to access the document," she said.
She said that the commission will be releasing 5,000 title deeds to schools countrywide that had applied for the document earlier.
"I urge schools that have not applied for the document to do so with speed since this will reduce the cases of grabbing land belonging to public schools," she added.
She challenged schools in possession of title deeds to ensure that they fence their compounds saying this will show that they are the rightful owners and no one will trespass on it.
"I urge schools that had applied for the document they are now ready and the principals should collect them at our lands offices in the 47 counties," she added.
