Pupils from Kibera who scored above 300 marks in the 2015 Kenya Certificate of Primary education will benefit from scholarships courtesy of the Kibera Constituency Development Fund.
The CDF kitty has always been used to support many students joining secondary schools but is limited to Kibera people. The slogan used here is; Kibera money for Kibera people.
Confirming news on social media, area MP Ken Okoth said more than 200 pupils have already been interviewed, and those who will be successful will be supported with up to Sh25,000. This money will be given annually.
However, the successful candidates need to work extra hard since the scholarships will only be sustained to students who will maintain or keep improving in their studies.
At the end of the year, the beneficiaries are evaluated where they present their report cards to the committee.
"After receiving the results of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education results, most of the parents from slum areas are always happy but unable to raise money for their children’s secondary education. I thank the area MP for chipping in to help our children achieve their goals,’ said Anne Odhiambo, a parent.
