Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has set up a five-member team comprising church leaders, teachers and members of the community peace committee to analyse the situation on the Kisumu-Nandi border and report back to his office within two weeks.

Ranguma said the committee's findings will inform his engagement with his Nandi counterpart, Governor Cleophas Lagat, on how to bring the political leadership between the two sides together for long lasting peace.

He also said the national government must also do its part to bring the two communities together.

The committee will also handle burial arrangements of the people who were killed in the scuffle.

The county government will cater for all the burial expenses such as coffins and mortuary bills.

In addition to this, the county government will pay all the hospital bills for the about 15 people who were injured and are recuperating in hospital.

“For those whose houses were burnt following the clashes, we have made arrangements to reconstruct the houses. I have instructed the ad hoc team, together with the Department of Special Programmes to ensure the work begins immediately,” he said.

He also announced that they have dispatched food and non-food items consisting of maize, beans and blankets to assist the victims of the Kibigori clashes.
