Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has put on notice county officers and contractors implicated in graft.

Ranguma said executive members or officers found engaging in corruption will carry their own cross. He said corruption hurts the country’s economy hence anybody implicated will not be tolerated in his administration.

Speaking during Jamhuri Day celebrations in Kenyatta sports grounds, he warned officers against taking bribes in the county will be sacked.

The governor also asked the public to oversight contractors who are doing shoddy work and report to him for action. He said the county government will not approve payment of contractors who have done substandard work.

“My government will not sit and watch public resources robbed in the name of doing shoddy job,” Ranguma added.

He called on EACC to help the county arrest and charge corrupt officers.

The council of Governors have already adopted a policy to blacklist shoddy contractors in all counties, he said. Ranguma said the policy will guide contractors to meet works standards instead of siphoning public funds.

The county boss warned that he will not allow those risking with the lives of residents who helped to constitute his government.

“As the Council of Governors, we are supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta in his efforts to combat corruption,” Ranguma said.

However, he urged the government to exercise tolerance and fair criticism in handling corruption matters by protecting whistle-blowers.

Ranguma said Raila should be protected as a whistle blower instead of being compelled to record a statement over the alleged loss of Sh140 billion Eurobond funds.
