Fuel consumers now have a reason to smile, after the energy regulator, ERC announced a downward adjustment in pump prices in the country following a drop in crude oil prices.
According to the Energy Regulatory Commission, the price of super petrol in the international market dropped by eight per cent, while diesel and kerosene recorded a decrease of 24 per cent and 21 per cent respectively in January 2016 compared to December last year.
The changes in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices are as follows: Super petrol reduces by Sh2.14 per litre, diesel reduces by Sh8.82 per litre while kerosene reduces by Sh6.51 per litre.
The price adjustments mean that petrol will retail at Sh87.26 per litre, while diesel and kerosene will cost Sh68.84 and Sh40.51 per litre, respectively in Nakuru town.
Mombasa will have the lowest prices of fuel in the country at Sh83.2 per litre for petrol and Sh64.63 and Sh36.94 a litre for diesel and kerosene, respectively.
The latest fall in fuel prices are expected to take effect from Monday to March 14.
In this respect, the commission has urged consumers to be vigilant in reporting non-compliant retailers to the authorities for necessary legal action.
