Nakuru motorists can go about their normal routines without worrying about paying road tolls.

This follows the move by Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia to suspend a plan to introduce the fees on Thursday.

In a statement to media houses, the CS termed the erection of billboards by the Kenya National Highways Authority, along the highways to communicate the planned tolls as premature and unauthorised.

“The ministry wishes to direct the various implementing partners to remove the said billboards, pending conclusion of the infrastructure funding policy study, review and adoption of the same as well as wide consultations on all key stakeholders along the said roads.”

This is indeed a relief to Nakuru motorists who would have been charged the toll fee for using the road. The roads that were to be affected include; Nairobi-Nakuru, Nairobi-Mombasa, Thika Superhighway and Nairobi’s Southern By-pass.

"I am happy they have suspended the toll plan, even if the fuel price has gone down we still pay so many taxes which the government can use to maintain the roads," said Fredrick Kirumba, a motorist in Nakuru
