Thika residents have been encouraged to start the new year by remembering the disadvantaged people living among them.
Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi said Thursday residents should start the year by remembering the disadvantaged such as the elderly, disabled, sick, beggars, street families in society.
She spoke at Thika GK Prison during preparation for the New Year's bash' to be given to the inmates at the facility.
"New Year's day should not just be another day for all of us. It should be a time to think and remember others who are not as privileged as us through sharing and showing that we care about them," said Wamwangi.
The MCA noted that the New Year day comes on a weekend which provides ample time for residents to visit and extend their love to the disadvantaged.
He, however, cautioned those with a habit of pretending to be generous when in the public while forgetting their parents and families.
"Charity begins at home. If you don't remember your parents and families who may be living in poverty, your donation to strangers may not yield much," Wamwangi advised.
