Residents of Mombasa, more so commuters at the Likoni channel, have raised concerns over lack of security at the channel.
Speaking to this writer on Sunday, the residents questioned the security procedures undertaken at the channel, claiming that the 'careless' screening at the area puts their lives at stake.
They also said that the ability of the security guards to protect them in case of an attack is questionable, considering they are not armed.
“We are not safe here. We just live by the grace of God. What is being provided here in the name of security is just a joke,” said Abdulrahman Abdi a commuter.
Dorcus Ndegwa, a resident was also very critical of the security measures put in place at the facility.
She claimed that security was not given much attention at the channel.
"We are normally frisked by security guards who seem not to be aware of what they are supposed to do,” said Ndegwa, a mother of one.
Ben Vote, said there is a lot to be done in a bid to ensure the safety of commuters is guaranteed.
