There was drama at Makairo area in Nyamira South sub county on Wednesday as businessmen and villagers barricaded Makairo- Magombo Road in protest of the poor state of the road.
The angered locals blocked the road that serves farmers from the area and condemning county and the national government leaders for failing to rehabilitate the road despite making pledges.
According to Ombuya Michael, a demonstrator, the residents were promised the rehabilitation last year yet nothing has been done to date.
He added that the road had been in bad state for more many years and promises to upgrade it have never been fulfilled by the leaders.
“Motorbikes cannot ply this road since it has several pot holes every step you make, the lorries gets murram from this region and they are leaving the roads worn out and they don't repair them,” he said.
The demonstrators burnt tyres on the road, forcing other road users to seek alternative routes to their destinations.
